The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities found he posed a concrete flight risk while under domestic detention.

The ex-president was sentenced of planning a government overthrow in September and given more than over two decades in jail, but he continued under home detention pending court reviews.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice the presiding justice said the decision to arrest the elderly politician was a preventative measure after recent developments came to light.

This involved attempting to break his ankle monitor and a invitation to a supporters' gathering that could enable a potential flight.

Court Filing Details Escape Risks

In a paperwork permitting the detention, the judge said intelligence from the unit overseeing his home detention suggested the one-time head of state's plan to remove the electronic ankle bracelet to ensure success in his escape.
