Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored his teammate at all of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the points lead from Piastri by a single point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in realistic title contention, sitting 36 points behind behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team ran a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he rotated at corner four early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the curbs on exit before spinning across the escape zone, and was fortunate to get away with just a minor contact of the fence.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn approaching the last turn on to the main straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th, trailing teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
